Easy way to make gloss

In this tutorial I will show how to make things shiny in illustrator, this is the easiest way I know of.

First make your shape however you want, I will be using a star for this tutorial, like below.

star

Next take the pen tool, make it so theres no fill, and draw the shape you wish you would like the shine to take, through your shape, so something like below:

pen

Now select the star, Copy it, and paste it(Cntrl+F).

Select the line you drew and the star copy.

Goto Window > PathFinder and press Divide.

divide

Your star should look something like this,

divide2

Double click the star, click the bottom half and delete it. It should look like this when selected:

star top

Now remove the stroke, and change the fill to white.

Goto Object > Path > Offset Path, and enter -2 pt in the offset box.

Select the outer offset and delete it. (If needed you may need to double click the white to allow the selection of the outer offset.)

Set the opacity to about 30% and thats it :) Simple enough. My results are below.
